Media technologies provide new ways to collaborate and communicate and also to experience content. They also require that business leaders make critical changes to strategy, culture and systems.

All industries are in danger of disruption, but it has been evident in particular in the media industry. It’s the reason that once-mighty giants such Blockbuster Video and Tower Records have gone out of business. It’s why many newspapers are shrinking and moving online, and it’s why so many shows on TV have been canceled.

Companies have to be resilient and flexible in the face of unstoppable disruption. In addition to being open to technological innovation and embracing new forms of collaboration and rely on flexible, integrated systems for rapid decision-making and improved outcomes.

Digital media can be described as any type of information that is that is transmitted through web digital data which at its most basic is a sequence of binary signals (zeroes and ones) sent over satellites or cables, and received by devices that convert them into audio, video, graphics, text, and more. It encompasses everything from streaming movies and television programs on platforms like Netflix to virtual reality surgical simulators that are used in medical institutions. It also includes websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram that allow users to interact with others by posting pictures, video and messages.

Samantha Kutza, a student at ESU seeking a bachelor’s degree in digital media technology, is excited about the possibilities for her future career.
